Welcome to the website for the Stapleford & District Local History Society

We aim to encourage and support an interest in the history of the Stapleford Area and help conserve and archive material of local interest.

Stapleford is a town in the county of Nottinghamshire, England, some 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) west of the centre of Nottingham and Stapleford lies on the border between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. To the north of Stapleford is Ilkeston and to the east is Beeston. To the west across the River Erewash is Sandiacre, and to the south is Toton.

The Stapleford & District Local History Society was formed in 1995 with the aim of promoting interest in and understanding of the history of Stapleford. We wish to help preserve the heritage of the local area and to assist other people with their research into local history by making available information and resources. The group has an extensive archive on the history of Stapleford and District material.

Meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm in the St. Helen's Church Hall, Frederick Road, Stapleford NG9 8FN. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the history of Stapleford and its surrounding area. The society aims are to hold events, collect material and publish information to stimulate the interest and knowledge the history Stapleford. Meetings usually have a visiting speaker and from February we intend to have some of our extensive collection of Stapleford Archives out on show at every meeting.

The Group is keen to invite the help of people who have information about the area and/or the inhabitants and to share with others the historical information we have gathered over the years. We are proud of our town and its heritage, and the ultimate aim of this website is to bring the local history of Stapleford to life, and to make it accessible to as many people as possible.
